GOTHIC

The genre of Gothic Fiction emerged from the English Romanticism. The English author Horace Walpole (1717-1797) is one of the early authors having a romantic view on dark and sad feelings. The most popular examples in literature are:

The story of Frankenstein (1818) by by Mary Shelley (1797-1851).

The story of The Vampyre" (1819) by John Polidori (1795-1821).

The story of Wuthering Heights (1847) by Emily Bronte (1818-1848).

The story of Dracula (1897) by Bram Stoker (1847-1912).

Today, a whole Gothic Subculture in style and music takes it's roots from the nineteenth century Gothic literature.
