have no idea that such a parallel world exists. The charm of the story is
the way the plot and it's characters are situated both in the real and
in a magical world.

to school, have to quarrel with schoolmates etc. are placed into a
magical environment. Thus, is it easy to identify oneself with the protagonists.
Nevertheless, it shows how a daily life would look like in a magical world
where any magical performance is as easy as pressing a button.
