CELTIC MYTHOLOGY

Celtic Mythology is strongly related to the Norse Mythology. Nevertheless, in the Celtic tradition local gods are as much important as the ruling gods. Take a look at some articles dealing with Celtic Mythology (Pantheon.org).

Principles

The belief system was based on the worship of the Norse Gods by

  • the belief that nature manifests in the gods and their decisions
  • celebrating celestial festivals
  • performing sacrifices

Teachings

Like in all Indo-European teachings the knowledge was orally transmitted in the form of long, regular poetry. Thus, not much has survived. There are almost records from Christian times only. Many Gaelic myths were first recorded by Christian monks, albeit without most of their original religious meanings; or quite the contrary the meaning was altered to fit Christian beliefs.

Ancient Scriptures

There are some legends and story according to Celtic Folklore from Ireland, Wales, Scotland, Brittany, and Manx (Isle Of Man). For reference, the Norse Folklore is cloesely related to the Celtic traditions..
