EGYPTIAN MYTHOLOGY

The Egyptian Mythology is the deceased religion from the pre-Islam period in Egypt. Nevertheless, the ancient Egyptian Pantheon has a representation of all important cults of that time in the Mediterranean.

Take a look at some articles dealing with Egyptian Mythology (Pantheon.org).

Principles

The Ancient Egyptian Belief System was based on the worship of the Egyptian Gods by

  • the belief that nature manifests in the gods and their decisions
  • celebrating celestial festivals
  • performing sacrifices

Teachings

Egyptian mythology consists, in part, of a large collection of narratives that explain the origins of the world and detail the lives and adventures of a wide variety of gods, goddesses, heroes, heroines, and other mythological creatures. These accounts were initially fashioned and disseminated in an oral-poetic tradition; thus, it was not a revealed religion, in that it was not a truth handed down from the divine to the mortal.

Ancient Scriptures

The Pyramid Texts and the Book of the Dead are the most well known sources from Ancient Egypt. Some original sources can be read at Sacred Texts.
