THE EIGHT DIRECTIONSDividing the 4 directions gives eight possibilities, representing even more choice of direction, i.e. providing all directions in the plane. E.g. the possible movements on a chess board is eight. Furthermore, the number eight represents all possible choices. The number eight is very important in the Indian mythology. Many representations of gods and goddesses are depicted with eight arms to indicate that the gods have all the possible choices to alter the world. The number 8 is considered to be the number of karmic influences where we are called upon to pay debts incurred in this and previous lives. It represents hard work and lessons learned through experience, and can therefore be a difficult number for some because of the very restrictiveness of its nature. | |||||||||
