One of the major priciples recognizable for the early man
were the principle of the male and female
properties of nature. Primarily, both attributes were considered
to be like Two Sides of One Coin
and mutual equal strong.
This principle can be found in the Chinese principle of
The Chinese Ying and Yang.
In such a way, the two sides can be seen as the two major types of the
Energy of Life.
The concept of
Personification
leeds either to a God having both male and female properties,
like in some Hindi legends, or it leeds
to the concept of a male God and a female Goddess.
The Male Principle
One of the most common symbol for the male principle
is an upstanding triangle. It is a very old symbol which can be found
at the very first cave paintings.
It's tip points upwards to symbolize the rising energy. It is
often depicted in bright colors to symbolize the light or fire.
Furthermore, the rising triangle stands for the erect phallus
which has many symbolizations in more detailed pictures as well.
The Female Principle
One of the most common symbol for the female principle is an
downpointing triangle. It is a very old symbol which can be found
at the very first cave paintings.
It's tip points downwards to symbolize the downflowing enery. It is
often depicted in dark colors to symbolize the night or water.
And of course, it is, quite literally, a symbol for the vulva.
