THE SERPENTIn the Mesopotamian Mythology the meaning of the serpent symbol is known from the epic of Gilgamesh where the plant of everlasting youth is stolen by a serpent who loses its old skin and thus is reborn. In the Mesoamerican Mythology the serpent symbol is represented by the rattlesnake and is depicted on many monuments and temples. The Snake is a limbless, elongate reptile of the suborder Serpentes which is common on all continents except Antarctica. All snakes are carnivorous and hunt small animals including lizards, other snakes, small mammals, birds, eggs, fish, snails or insects. | |||||||||
